GMG Secondary Students Honor Earth Day
7-12 Students Plant 450 Trees in 2 Hours at Union Grove State Park
GMG 7-12 students spent Earth Day at Union Grove State Park in Tama County (Wednesday, April 22).
Students and staff planted 450 trees in 2 hours. Students hiked the trails and participated in an activity to learn about the park's ecosystem. DNR, park staff, and volunteers provided the tree-planting training, as well as the teaching about the ecosystem.
The Tama County Cattlemen grilled the meat they donated.
After lunch, served by GMG's Kitchen Staff, students had time to fish, play yard games, challenge each other in beach volleyball, and take in the day's sunshine.
High school-aged students had the opportunity to go canoeing and kayaking, thanks to former GMG Teacher Mike Anderson.
GMG's Erin Murty and Casey Faircloth organized the entire event.
